Display Resolution
Computer displays come in so many shapes, sizes, and formats that it can be overwhelming—not to mention time-consuming—to learn the differences. It gets even more complicated when the discussion turns to the technical details for how the computer shows what you see. You've come to this page for help, so we'll stick to the basics to make sure you have the best possible experience on TASB.org with your own computer setup.
Differences of resolution
When you first come to the TASB.org site with a new computer or, at least, Web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox, Navigator, Safari), a small window will pop up to ask you what your preference is: 1024x768 pixels or 800x600 pixels. (Note: If you have a pop-up blocker set in your browser, you will not see this window.) This refers to the width and height of the Web page, measured in pixels.
What is a pixel?
Your computer screen is made up of pixels—tiny picture elements that determine the color and clarity of what you see. Imagine the screen is comprised of a grid of equal-sized squares that turn on and off and project a different hue and intensity depending on the instructions they're given by the computer.
The default size of a TASB.org page is 1024 pixels in width by 768 pixels in height. However, since TASB uses a specialized computer application—a content management system—to help manage the Web site's content and design, you can reformat both to fit your need. That is to say, if your computer monitor is set to display things in a larger size so they're easier for you to see, then less content can fit on screen at one time. If things are smaller, you can see more at once.
TASB's content management system can reflow the content of a Web page into a template that is 800 pixels in width by 600 in height. 1024x768 and 800x600 are both standards around the world and are not arbitrarily selected. The odds are very high that you have your computer display set to one or the other.
What to do
If you are unable to see the entirety of a TASB.org Web page without scrolling from left to right, it's likely your resolution is at 800x600. This means you won't be able to see the right-hand side of the page where the Contact TASB, Help, and myTASB buttons are, along with the search, downloads, related information, and Information Central (depending upon the page).

(Site switched to resolution of 800 pixels wide. Click for a larger view.)
When you get the pop-up window that asks you to customize TASB.org, you may preview what the change will do to the page before making a final selection. Once you've set the preference, you will no longer see the preference window pop-up when visiting the site unless you've cleared your Web browser's "cookie" file or are accessing the site from another computer or browser.
Changing your preference
If you change your mind—or your resolution—later, you can undo the selection. The site's header has a toggle switch located under the "Texas Association of School Boards" name so that you may set the preference back and forth whenever you wish. Click on the shape that represents the format you wish to activate (the one that is "on" will be displayed in green) and the preference will remain, even when you leave the site and come back.

(800x600 [tall] format toggled on.)
